Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of digital marketing that focuses on promoting websites and increasing their visibility on search engine results pages (SERPs) through paid advertising. It involves creating and running targeted ads on search engines like Google, Bing, and others, which are displayed alongside or above the organic search results when users enter relevant search queries.

SEM relies on keywords, which are specific words or phrases that users commonly search for when looking for products, services, or information online. Advertisers bid on these keywords to have their ads displayed to users who enter those keywords in search engines. The ads are typically displayed prominently at the top or on the side of the search results page.
